The diffraction limited minimum spot size is proportional to wavelength and inversely proportional to the numerical aperture or the focusing angle of the beam. The transverse resolution is Dx ¼ 4l f Á p d where l is the wavelength, d is the size of the incident beam on the objective lens, and f is the focal length.
